Timeless and Transcendent Wisdom
Dear Friends,
Timeless and transcendent wisdom from above. Pretty powerful stuff. Then again, we have a pretty powerful God! (Thank goodness….)
At Kingdom Advisors, we talk a lot about the importance – indeed, the responsibility – of integrating your faith and your work, and are focused on equipping you with tools, resources and counsel to fulfill that mission. That’s why I was struck recently by verses 16 through 18 in James Chapter 3; they so clearly discuss how envy and self seeking behavior will lead to confusion and uncertainty, while pointing out that those behaviors are contrary to His word.
Yet, it’s the next verse that is particularly meaningful for advisors, because it is a direct message from God that reaffirms our calling: the fruit of His wisdom is sown in peace by those who make peace. He’s called us to accept the role of a “sower of peace” and embrace the privilege of sharing His word with all those who are within our sphere of influence. By sowing the peace of His word, you will go far beyond providing solid and lasting financial advice… you will have a positive and lasting impact on someone else’s life.
When you talk with someone who is distressed, confused and concerned, turn to those verses in James 3 and remind them that eternal wisdom from above has told us for generations upon generations that evil, self seeking behavior (and the problems that arise from those behaviors) is not what God wants for us. He wants us to have peace in our lives; we simply need to study and learn from and follow His word.
Thinking about showing a colleague, client or family member that there is a better way to live life than following the evils of the world seems pretty straightforward and certainly makes sense. Putting that thought into action is a powerful step toward fully integrating your faith and your work.
Let us know how you have brought peace to another person by sharing specific Biblical passages, and how that “life counsel” has stretched and deepened your relationships. Share your story below and inspire others.
Blessings,
Ron
