Building Faith

Dear Friends,

One of the most challenging questions a believer can be asked is, “What is faith?” To the Christian who has accepted the Lord as their Savior, it’s not hard to answer because they have faith – they feel it in their core. So, the challenge becomes how do you explain faith to someone who is not yet a Christian?

You could quote scripture and the words of thoughtful Christian writers:
“Faith perceives as real fact what is not revealed to the senses.”
“Faith is not the denial of reality, but the acceptance of a greater reality.”
“Faith is proof of things we do not see and conviction of their reality.”

For someone who “has no faith” to begin with, these can be empty words and unsatisfactory explanations. That’s why time after time, I come back to the truth that the best way to help ourselves and others understand faith is to live faith. By that I mean living our lives according to God’s word, and through our actions showing others that because of our faith, we have a strong measure of peace and contentment, joy in the present and confidence in the future.

How do you do that? First and foremost, remember that God is your defender and judge, your provider and protector. You do not need to take on those roles; God joyfully and powerfully handles them for you. The assurance that you can depend on Him for all your needs frees you to live out true faith by “letting go and letting God.” You do not have to worry or fret over or try to take control of every situation, even those that are undeniably out of your control.

For advisors, that means remembering that you cannot control the rise and fall of the market. You cannot inject enough capital into the economy to get it humming along again. You cannot force your clients to accept your sage advice.

It also means focusing on what you can do. Live by example. Follow your own advice. Do your best to counsel clients along Biblical principles so they make the right decisions for themselves and their eternity. Demonstrate your faith in ways large and small, and not only will you feel it build within you stronger and deeper, others will notice, too… and that’s a catalyst for transformation!

Can you depend on God? The answer is an unequivocal YES! That’s the key to living a Christian life.

Recall a time when you “let go and let God” … what blessings followed this demonstration of your faith? Share your story and inspire others.

Blessings,

Ron
