He Is Able
Dear Friends,
As I noted here last time, I believe that man’s chief end is to glorify God. His omnipotence is not a power to be feared but rather is to be revered and worshipped because all that He does is for our good, now and in the hereafter… even when it may not seem that way.
I was talking with a friend who is going through some challenges with her business and facing tough decisions about what to do going forward. Should she continue along her current path or sell the business and pursue a new opportunity that also allows her to work for the Kingdom? These decisions are causing her a lot of stress and she expressed concern about providing for her family and their future especially in today’s tough economy. I’m sure she’s having some sleepless nights, weighing the “pros and cons” of her options.
Yet in the same conversation, she said that her current situation has been a tremendously rewarding experience because it has strengthened her walk with God and her faith that it will all work out according to His plan for her and her family’s good. She can’t yet imagine what tomorrow or the next day will bring in terms of more decisions or greater challenges, but she is approaching them with a sense of excitement to see what He reveals as His plan for her life. She knows that He can do greater things than she can imagine or ever try to plan for. So, she starts each day praying and glorifying God, and as much as possible maintains a happy anticipation for what lies ahead.
Change is hard. Most people avoid it whenever they can. We all get into our comfort zone, and it just seems easier to “go with the flow.” Think back to a time when you faced a major life change. It probably caused you stress like my friend is experiencing now. Hopefully, you turned your face to God and prayed for His guidance for your next move and for His hand to oversee your future. Now think about how your life is likely better, happier and more fulfilling because you trusted in His infinite wisdom and had faith in His provision. That’s awesome power!
This is my prayer for today as I seek to be filled with the Holy Spirit, be still in order to hear God’s voice, and be there as I am with other people. I encourage you to pray it, too (Ephesians 3:16-21):
That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;
That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,
May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God.
Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.
