Give Your Burdens to God

Dear Friends,

Recently, I wrote to you about the importance of resisting the urge to project yourself into the future and rehearse what you will do or say in response to a situation because in doing so, we rely too heavily on ourselves and forget that God has a plan for us that only He knows. This week’s blog is another reminder that we don’t have to take it all on and try to resolve our worries or concerns on our own. It’s OK to cast our burdens on the Lord – in fact, the Lord asks us to do so – remembering that He alone will deliver us.

That sounds good. It’s comforting to read. It’s a solid reminder of how much we are loved by the Father. But in reality, how good are we at “letting go and letting God?”

As I’ve noted before, financial advisors tend to be planners -- we have to be in order to serve our clients. In recent times, looking ahead to try to figure out what’s coming next hasn’t been a particularly pleasant experience. Our clients come to us seeking answers and reassurance. We work diligently to provide that for them. A secular advisor has a special challenge because all they could point to would be historical market statistics and man’s projections for what the markets will do next. By contrast, a Christian advisor has a special opportunity.

That’s why your commitment to incorporate your faith into your profession is so significant, and a great blessing not only to you but also to your clients. It helps you embrace a sense of calm within your own mind and heart because you trust that the Lord is present in all things and everything is unfolding according to His plan. You know that it’s OK if you don’t have all the answers. You know that you can rely on Biblical wisdom to counsel others regarding financial and life decisions. That knowledge equips you to impart the same sense of calm security to your clients as you help them realize life’s ups and downs are known to the Father, anticipated in advance, and a necessary step in their journey.

What a joy to be a Christian financial advisor in today’s troubled world! What an opportunity for ourselves and others to be reminded that we can cast our burdens to the Lord and He will listen and guide us in the right direction! How have you used this knowledge to counsel clients during a time of stress and worry and how did it help you and your clients “weather a storm”? Share your stories and inspire others to continue to trust in and rely on the Lord.

Blessings,

Ron
