Let Them See Jesus

Dear Friends,

Despite of the busyness of every day life, we need to strive to remember who we are in the eyes of God and the reason we were saved – so that we can emulate Jesus through our thoughts and actions.  Sometimes that’s very hard to do because we are faced with unhappy situations, stress and anxiety. Yet, if we realize God allows these difficulties in our lives so that we have a chance to let His light shine through, it is easier to keep these problems in perspective and respond in a way that honors Him.

Oswald Chambers pursued a very challenging purpose for his life: to make himself “invisible” in the eyes of others so that all they would see in him was the power and the light and the love of God. In past blogs, I have written about the importance of keeping God foremost in our lives, praying and giving thanks to Him without ceasing, and getting our hearts, minds, thoughts and actions in alignment with His wishes. By doing so, wholeheartedly and with passion, we will have completely submitted to His will and He can work through us to fulfill His plan. Then, His love and light will be first and our human, earthly tendencies will take a back seat.

That submission is the key to a deep personal relationship with God because it begins on the inside of us and shines through to others. That’s the opposite of “going through the motions” of what we think a good Christian should do simply to show others that we are believers. If we truly believe and submit, we will get closer and closer to God and His glow will shine forth. Our anger, anxiety and fear will dissolve as we live a life that actively demonstrates we entrust our future to God’s strong and capable hands.

I really like this analogy: humans are like clay pots with cracks; we are broken and imperfect. Yet, just as God seeks us out in all our imperfection, in ancient times, people sought out cracked clay pots because they made the best lanterns – the cracks allowed a candle to shine through and light their way. Let God shine through the cracks in your life and illuminate the way for yourself and others.

“Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:15-16)

How have you let the light of God shine through in your personal and professional life? Share your stories and inspire others to be a beacon for those around them.

Blessings,

Ron

I appreciate Ron's simple reminders on a regular basis, and I couldn't agree more that Oswald Chamber's My Utmost for His Highest is a superb devotional. I've used it about 5 years in the past 20 and it's the best one, I have found. I first became acquainted with it about 20 years ago when Chuck Swindoll promoted it on his Insight For Living broadcast.
