Questions I Ask Myself

Dear Friends,

As Kingdom Advisors, we have accepted our call to lead – in our practices, with other advisors, with our clients and in our communities. As a leader, our jobs are not always glamorous, just as Jesus showed us when he performed one of the most menial tasks of his day. At the Last Supper, the disciples’ dirty feet were more than literally “dirty feet.” They illustrated a spiritual flaw in that none of them was wholly committed to the leadership required to share Jesus’ message because none of them was willing to wash the feet of the others – that would have been like accepting the position of a slave. The leader in Jesus realized this flaw and washed others’ feet. He was their leader and yet it was His nature to serve.

Sounds like a contradictory message -- to lead by serving -- doesn’t it? Let me explain why it’s not.

Christians believe that they belong to and are obedient to the Lord. That puts us in the position of a servant, always being told to obey someone else. How are we supposed to develop a fulfilling relationship with someone who is telling us what to do all the time? Yet, we are told that living a Christian life and bowing before the Lord is a blessing and provides us with the greatest possible fulfillment. Our flesh fights this because we like to think we are “in charge.”

But we are not in charge. By his very nature, Jesus is in charge. His leadership is based on the fact that he does not need us in order for him to be the Son of God. He is because he is, not because we follow him or because we say he is. He simply is. Period. His authority does not come from anything we do; whether we like it or not, acknowledge it or not, he is the Son of God. That certainty frees him to serve others – washing their feet, freeing them from demons, giving them hope and life counsel, and offering people the choice to follow him. That’s a powerful kind of leadership! When we choose to live our lives under that leadership we are embraced, elevated, freed and taught life’s most important lessons. As leaders in our own worlds, how can we seek to mirror Jesus’ leadership? Now do you see that the question really is, “How can we serve each other?”Are you willing to rise up by stepping down from your comfortable position and wash some feet? Share your story and inspire others to lead by serving, too.

Blessings,

Ron

Excellent questions presented! I took 10 minutes and answered these questions. What a blessing to help me focus on prayer needs and issues before me. This helped me be specific for which to ask and trust the Lord. Thanks, Ron.

I find all of Ron's shared reflections on his daily walk invaluable, but this one is a classic. Is there any way to change the technology so we can save the video? This is one I would like to watch monthly as I review my walk over the past thirty days and it is a great checklist! Thank you for sharing Ron.
