What is Your Faith in?

Dear Friends,

A few weeks ago, I heard a powerful illustration of faith in a sermon at church. The pastor was telling about a time when he had the sad task of walking through life with a young man whose wife was suddenly taken from him through a swift disease. Not too long into the young man’s grieving process, the pastor asked him how he was doing and how he was getting through such a tragedy. The young man replied that he’d come to the conclusion in his grief that the pertinent question was not “Why?” but, rather “Who?”

How many times do I go through life asking “How?” or “When?” or “Why?” when I could answer so many deeper questions by asking “Who?”

Who is God? Who is Jesus to the suffering, the poor, the confused, the unrighteous, the Pharisees, or the disciples? Who is Jesus to me today? Who is the Holy Spirit in my life? Who is the Father revealing Himself to be?

When I turn my attention away from life’s compelling logistics and onto the most compelling “Who” of all time, my “fears are stilled and strivings cease.” I can rest my faith on the person of Christ rather than on my own intellect or reasoning or feelings or friendships. So often, as believers, it is tempting to formulize and intellectualize and contextualize our faith, when the real basis of our faith is simply a relationship with the most amazing “Who” to ever step foot into our life’s story.

I pray you know the encouragement of resting your faith on the person of Jesus Christ today.

Blessings,

Ron
