God Helping Himself to Our Lives

Dear Friends,

I am very excited for you to hear from Dr. Ken Boa in this month’s Study Group, and I hope that most of you will be able to attend a group and hear the lecture that we captured on DVD a few weeks ago here at Kingdom Advisors. Dr. Boa talks about the integration of the sacred and the secular in such a compelling way, and his message completely corresponds to Chambers’ message that we exist only for God to help Himself to lives.

In his teaching, Dr. Boa remarked that we “play to an audience of One” several times. I love what that line conveys in the midst of our complicated world. I am so struck, lately, by the level of distraction that we deal with in our culture. We are bombarded by images, opinions, input, data, and connectivity. I can be standing in my own kitchen and the dishwasher will tell me it is done, the coffee pot stands ready to brew one cup instantly, the sensor on the window will tell me today’s temperature and tomorrow’s forecast, and the television will ask me to decide which of my favorite shows I want to watch, when. All I did was walk into the kitchen for a glass of water, and I found at least 10 new data points to process. It’s distracting!

I believe that you and I both want to do what Chambers challenged. We both want to be a vehicle through which God can readily help Himself to lives. To be that kind of a channel, though, requires that we practice the discipline and focus of “playing to an audience of One.” Now, more than ever before in my life, I must purposefully and protectively approach my time with the Lord. I must, each day, renew my commitment to listen to His voice first and to consciously turn off the world’s distractions for a time so that I can hear from Him. I must willfully turn my eyes, heart, and activity toward Him. I must allow Him to fill the space that the world wants to fill. Then, He will use my work, first and foremost, to help Himself to lives.

Blessings,

Ron
