Our Purpose is to Bring Honor
Dear Friends:
The Westminster Catechism asks, “What is the chief end of man?” and then answers, “Man’s chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy Him forever.”
The glory of God is best evidenced through the redemptive narrative that God has ordained in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ for the salvation of the nations. As believers, we have a small speaking part in that redemptive narrative. We have a role in God’s story, and we are graced with the opportunity to glorify Him as He evidences redemption in our own lives.
Where do you see redemption today? Do you see it in the springtime – in nature? Do you see it in family relationships that are slowly healing through I Corinthians 13 love? Do you see it in your workplace as your clients’ hearts are softened toward God’s ownership of their resources? I hope so – I hope you are watching with open eyes to see the ways that God is being glorified through the redemptive scenarios in your life.
Where do you need redemption today? Do you need it in fractured family relationships? Do you need it in the way that you use your time, talent, and treasure? Do you need it in order to conquer a habit, attitude, or addiction in your life? I hope so – because when we stop realizing our need for God’s redemptive work, we have become unplugged from the opportunity for Him to be glorified. I hope that your need for God’s grace is deep and that He continues to meet you in that place of need.
Isaiah 60:21 says, “They people also shall all be righteous: they shall inherit the land forever, the branch of my planting, the work of my hands, that I may be glorified.”
God’s glory and His redemptive story are intertwined. Let us say also with Isaiah, “Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the Lord Jehovah is my strength and my song; He also is become my salvation.” (Is. 12.2)
Blessings,
Ron
