Rescue from Addiction to Self

Dear Friends,

If you have taken Kingdom Advisors Core Training, you know that I love to teach around the model “Know, Believe, Do.” The path from head knowledge to real action flows through the heart. We must believe what we know before we will act upon it.

Along those lines, if we are going to move with the Holy Spirit as He rescues us from our addiction to ourselves, we need to choose the path of knowledge, belief, and action. I’d like to share with you some of my favorite memory verses relating to those three steps in the transformation process:

KNOW: (Continually fill our minds with Truth)

“Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.” Philippians 4:8 (NASB)

“We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.” II Corinthians 10:5 (NASB)

BELIEVE: (Clothe our hearts with attitudes that reflect Christ’s character)

“So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you.” Colossians 3:11-13 (NASB)

DO: (Put into practice what God is showing us about ourselves)

“This you know, my beloved brethren. But everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger; for the anger of man does not achieve the righteousness of God. Therefore, putting aside all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness, in humility receive the word implanted, which is able to save your souls. But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror; for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was. But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does.” James 1:19-25 (NASB)

I pray that you will see God’s hand in rescuing you from addiction to self this week, and that you will know the power of His word to transform your mind, your heart, and your actions.

Blessings,

Ron

Addiction to self is one of the great heart enemies we have, from one extreme of pride to the opposite of self-loathing. God can rescue us from our addiction to self for sure. By personal experience I've found it much better to voluntarily submit
versus having to go through a very painful breakening. The Beatitudes speaks beautifully to this. Matthew 5:3-10
