Glory In the Cross
Dear Friends,
Have you ever stopped to observe tiny creatures for a period of time? A spider spinning her web? An ant carrying his food on his back? A hummingbird drinking his fill from a red plastic feeder? When observing such things, it is easy to be amazed at the intricate nature of life, even among the smallest creatures. On the other hand, it is also very easy for us (as humans) to chuckle at how the particular creature we are watching is oblivious to the wider world. The spider does not know that there are 120 other doorways just like yours in your neighborhood where she could spin a web. The ant does not know that if he had just walked 4 inches further, he would have found a peanut butter cookie crumb rather than just an old breadcrumb. The hummingbird does not know that the ocean of sweet water he drinks from has to be prepared by you at your sink once a week, or his ocean will run dry.
When the Holy Spirit convicts me that I am living in a self-absorbed (self-glorification) state, I am reminded of those tiny creatures. God knows the intricacies of my life…my relationships, my schedules, my decisions, my goals, my dreams. He wants me to look up and glorify Him, the maker of those intricacies. And, God also knows the wide, wide context of eternity and He knows where my life fits. He is the only one capable of leading me to the proverbial doorway, cookie crumb, or full feeder. My wisdom ends where my vision and understanding end. His wisdom is limitless.
When the Lord begins to convict you of self-absorption, take the time to offer Him your intricacies and your context. Worship Him in the details and in the unknowns, and trust that He is good and He is the only being worthy of glory.
May He encourage your heart today with the scope of His goodness and grace.
Blessings,
Ron
